                                                                Mrs. Chiphe's School Visits

My school visits presentations will take into consideration the needs of the school.  I will adapt the presentation and content to accommodate age and school levels of my participants.  When working with grades 3 and up I will cover the importance of reading and writing and how they supplement each other. For High School students, I will highlight writing as a career. I engage the students in the role of the writer and the illustrator as well as the publisher and editor.

Typically, authors can conduct four one-hour presentations a day. Audience size can be discussed. I will do a slideshow on the types of books, fiction, and non-fiction with age-related examples of books for each category. In addition, I will read from my book “When Love Walked The Earth”, and go through the writing process with a storyboard that the students can create for themselves based on a topic they are studying.  If I am in your school for two days I will guide students through the writing process by allowing each student to create their very own book for publishing.

In addition, to the above, I will conduct Parent workshops and Educators workshops for book talks and on using books across the curriculum and getting students excited about writing. These workshops will include online resources to publish student’s writing.

Thanks for booking my visit to your school. Please find enclosed pertinent information to help ensure my visit is a success.

This pre-visit kit will help you get your students, teachers, and the entire school community “excited” and ready for our time together. It contains:

A Kit will be Mailed to you consisting of the following information

1)      Book ordering info

2)     Sample book sale & signing letter - to send home with students

3)     Sample press release – that I will send to local media

4)     Reproducible bookmarks – to give to students on the day of the visit

To prepare your students, it’s important to read my book to your class or have the students read it independently. Reading and talking about my work will help your students have a richer, more meaningful experience when they meet me.

The teacher’s guides will help you:

  • Build up to your author visit with activities based on my book·

  • Link my book and the information presented during my programs with your curriculum.

  • Continue to use ideas from my presentations and book as a highlight for the remaining of the school year.
